However, this book seems to have a lot of the Ella Summer’s FireBorn series (with Saraphina and Alexandra) as well as elements of Lindsay Hall’s Fire Soul series and wraps it up with characters reminiscent of those from the Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series. Since I loved those sets, and have most of the books in the sets and spin-offs, it does stand to reason I would like these.I particularly like the tension between Sophia and Adam, the mental as well as the sexual. It makes a story mean more to me when there is s tension and a mystery and the book is not just sex scenes or swinging swords. It’s not easy to keep a book at a fast and easy pace while inserting a meaty background. This book does it making it, in my opinion, a good book to read.

I don't know what I enjoyed more, the plot or the character banter.
I always like a new, fresh fantasy book, but the character banter between Sophia & Fiona and Sophia & Adam was just hilarious. I was laughing like crazy.
Well written, well paced.
An enjoyable read. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
When I started reading I kept thinking I had read the book before and actually checked the author. World and character traits are very similar to two other authors I have read. That being said, the story was interesting. I didn't connect with the h. This made it difficult to immerse myself in the story. However I was engaged by the last 25%. Reviews from books next in series indicate the story becomes more original. I will probably move onto next book and see.
What a unique twist on Fireborn mages. Sophia and Fiona start a new life in a supernatural town, kicking butt and taking names. Sophia has a secret that could endanger the lives of anyone who knows her. Adam Pierce, CEO and council member hires her for a job she's forced to take. Will she be able to keep her secret safe? Will Adam's attraction become a problem? This series has it all--shifters, fairies, magic, mayhem and romance. The author did an excellent job of keeping me interested from the very beginning. I'll definitely be purchasing book 2 !!
Fast-paced easy read full of fun characters and sassy remarks. The romance was enjoyable to read, probably because the characters felt real. Sophia acted like an actual person who was fighting her head and heart. Looking forward to seeing many more adventures with these characters — and learning more about Sophia’s dark past!
This was a wonderful book. I loved the character interactions. We have two women who have had a traumatic situation early in life which forged an unbreakable bond between them. Even being on the run from their persecutor, they become strong women fighting to make a place for themselves. I love snarky female characters. It 's like catnip to the seemingly all-powerful male character. What's nice about this relationship is that the female doesn't just immediately fall for the male. She doesn't need or want to be taken care of by a male. They are on a quest together while she must keep him from learning her secrets. Along the way, she starts to learn about her mysterious past,
If you like strong, snarky, kick-butt female characters facing overwhelming odds, then this is the book to read.
This is a very good beginning for a series about a young woman and her best friend as they grow and find their way in the world. The lead character is snarky and has attitude which makes her fun. Although this is a serious story it is also light and has a good romance in it also. Definitely give it a read.
I've read several stories by this author and she continues to entertain me with her amazing ability to create awesome stories that allow me to dwell in her Worlds so I can escape the real one.
The characters are very believable and have the right amount of snarkiness, faults of all kinds, but always seems to go beyond to help others. The flow was smooth and steady with loads of action throughout the story.
Now imagine waking up chained in a dark room having no memory of how you got there. No memories of who you are, but knows what you are..Fireborn. This is the ability to absorb all magic. Abby will escape and finds another who she will take with her. They both will make a life together some eight years later. Working as mercs they will meet all kinds of magical beings. This life will ultimately bring them closer to finding answers about their past.

I would recommend this story for all readers who love urban fantasy with supernatural aspects.
